Early Warning System (EWS)
The system is intended for the dissemination of the information within certain locality that is prone to the danger, helping the dwellers to take preventive measures pre-hand. Each year in Nepal when monsoon triggers the hazard of flood, hundreds of lives are lost, large number of families are displaced, thousands of lives lie in jeopardy and flood victims face huge lose of properties. Acknowledging the impact of flood in our country, we have devised this system as a prompt solution to reduce the risk involved with the flood catastrophe.
The Early Warning Dissemination System is a fully automatic embedded system. With the sudden increase in the water level in rivers, this system generates alarm informing the villagers about the danger so that in case of any flood they can excavate the area before any damage to lives and properties.
The water level is constantly monitored through the web based interface. The real time reading of the water level is displayed on the main unit. The main unit consists of a communication module and display with power supply.
Whenever the crucial thresholds of the water level are exceeded persistently, an acknowledgement is sent to the system through the web and as a response to it, the system generates alarm automatically. Thus everyone in the village is made aware of the danger.
This is how the system generates alarm when there is good internet connectivity. Even when there is no internet connectivity, flood warning should be issued since it is the matter of thousands of lives. For this the system can generate alarm through SMS as an alternative. If the connection between web and device is lost, the data logger itself can send SMS to the device to generate the alarm. Moreover, even if this option fails, whenever there is risk of flood, any individual can send SMS to the system for generating alarm. The SMS details are logged into web-based interface for future reference.
If the water level shows a rising trend, the system snoozes after regular interval of time indicating high degree of risk. Unlike, if the case is reverse the system stops generating any alert.
